Custom High Performance R2R DAC

FIIO’s newly self-developed R2R DAC consists of 2 x 48 precision thin-film resistor arrays per channel, totaling 192 resistors. This custom designed configuration delivers a unique and charming sound that is so sought after recently.

FiiO K11 R2R employs a fully differential architecture, resulting in lower noise, with a cleaner music background compared to some previous designs. It easily decodes lossless CD quality and even high res files.

Is the FiiO K11 R2R Better in NOS or OS mode?

The DAC comes with dual modes of NOS (non-oversampling) and OS (oversamplig). Each modes provides a unique tuning that allows you to choose which compliments your headphones best, based on your music taste and your preferences.

NOS (Non-Oversampling) Mode: Maintains the original sampling rate for decoding, preserving authentic sound and allowing you to enjoy an organic and captivating musical experience. This tends to be the warmer, smoother of the two, the mode most people are interested in when choosing the R2R dac in the first place.

In our experience it works especially well with headphones that tend to be a bit brighter in the highs, like Beyerdynamic models, NOS compliments HD600 nicely, Dan Clark models, Audio Technica open back models, Ultrasone, Grado SR325, RS1, RS2 and some of the earlier Hifiman models all come to mind as good matches here.

OS (Oversampling) Mode: Up-samples music files to a high sampling rate of 384kHz, for superior measured audio performance and even more refined, clearer sound quality.

OS Mode tends to be a bit clearer, leaner, great for mastering work, a nice match with headphone that are softer in the highs,  - try OS mode with Audeze, Hifiman Edition XV, HD650 / HD6XX and Focal models would be good to try with the OS mode.

In the K11 R2R, the audio signal is transmitted via a USB interface processor to an FPGA, then sent to the R2R DAC for 4-channel output after decoding. Then, it passes through two Ti OPA1642 op-amps for low-pass filtering.

K11 R2R | High Quality Headphone Amp:

The output stage uses two SGM8262 op-amps with Low / Med / High gain controls, making it easy to match the K11 R2R to a wide variety of IEM's and over ear headphones. Headphone output is powerful, with up to 1300mW of high output power, combined with 3 gain levels for ease of use. Choose from SE 6.35mm jack or BAL 4.4mm jack to easily match the cables and headphones you own.

K11 R2R has been one of our best sellers in 2025 and it absolutely looks like great value as we head into 2026! Since the the DAC has such a strong amp output into low impedance loads, it has been a great match with planar magnetic headphones like Hifiman and Dan Clark Audio.

Can FiiO K11 R2R Drive High Impedance Headphones?

Yes, yes it can! It is also popular to use on high gain with high impedance models like the HD6XX, HD600 and the 250 ohm DT990 and DT1770 models, either from the 6.35mm output or with the Sennheiser models, if you add a balanced cable, with the 4.4mm output.

FiiO K11 vs. FiiO K11 R2R: Official Comparison

While the K11 and K11 R2R share a similar compact aluminum chassis and high-contrast LCD screen, they are built on fundamentally different internal architectures designed for different listening preferences.

1. Internal Architecture & DAC Technology

FiiO K11 (Standard): Utilizes the CS43198 Delta-Sigma DAC chip. This is a traditional, high-performance integrated circuit known for high resolution, transparency, and a clean, neutral sound signature.

FiiO K11 R2R: Features FiiO’s self-developed 4-channel fully differential 24-bit R2R resistor ladder. It uses 192 precision thin-film resistors (0.1% tolerance) to convert digital signals to analog. This architecture is designed to produce a more "analog," organic, and musical sound profile.

2. Sound Philosophy

According to FiiO’s internal testing and exhibition feedback:

K11: Excel in resolution and precision. It is the "higher quality" choice for listeners who prioritize technical accuracy and a detailed soundstage.

K11 R2R: Offers better low-frequency flexibility and thicker, richer vocals. It is described as having more "taste" or "musical character" compared to the neutral transparency of the original.

Power output specs are similar between the two models, with the K11 having slightly higher output.

3. Summary: Which should you choose?

Choose the K11 if you want a hyper-analytical, transparent, and neutral setup for critical listening or studio monitoring.

Choose the K11 R2R if you prefer a warm, relaxed, and immersive experience with an "analog" soul, or if you want to experiment with the unique characteristics of NOS (Non-Oversampling) mode.
